Öland is not only known as a sunbathing paradise, but also as the place to be for lovely birdsong, wonderful oceans of flowers, beautiful art and changing nature. A nature so special that during the year of 2002 Öland was accepted on the UN list of worldinheritance.

Even though the Island is the smallest province of Sweden, it is also the province with the most registrated hours of sun. This is an island with very old history. Here rests a mystery around the relic castles and graves from the Viking age. With a little imagination you might even feel the history, if you try hard enough!

Strand Hotel has single rooms and family rooms with wonderful seaview and a suite with private sauna and bubblebath. Many of our rooms have balconies facing the sea. All our rooms have chashboxes, for storage of laptop and valuables, free of charge. Included in the room rates is entrance to our 25-meter swimmingpool and free access to Internet in the lobby area.

We are renouned for small exclusive meetings as well as colorful, major functions up to several hundred participants. Our meeting and conference facilities are designed to help and stimulate minds and ideas. The objective is to make every event successful, memorable and rewarding. The restaurant at Strand Hotel is named after the artist Yrjö Edelmann and the walls are decorated with his famous art. Our restaurant offer an international menu with a touch of Öland.

Yrjö Edelmann - was born in Helsinki in 1949 and came to Sweden and Kalmar with his family as a young boy. Then he discovered the beautiful Island Öland. Today Yrjö lives in Stockholm during the winter, but every summer he returns to Öland and his own designed summer studio in Borgholm. The paintings are mostly depictin objects wrapped in paper. You can enjoy this wonderful art at for example The Museum of Modern Art San Francisco, The Museum of Utrech Holland, The Malmö Museum, The Brooklyn Museum New York... - and at Strand Hotel!

There is something magical about the oblong island situated in Kalmarsund. Only 140 km long but so ful of historical memories and things worth seeing. In the summer time, an ocean of flowers fills the whole island in all possible colours. A stroll over the "Alvaret" at this time of the year spellbounds just about everybody. But it can be just as beautiful on a windstill winter day, with the sun glistening in the snow and time seeming to stand still. But the autum is the best time of the year, according to the people who live on Öland. You can enjoy warm autum days far in september, while the nature slowly changes colour. Öland offers much more than just beautiful nature. For example "Storgatan", wich is the city´s pulse, has many boutiques, restaurants and a market trading place at summer time. Öland also offers golfing, camping and beatiful beaches for lazy days by the sea.

Nearly half a million Swedes play golf as exercise or just for leisure. The most beautiful golfcourses in Sweden are right here on Öland. There are the large clubs with their many facilities but also the small genuine ones, where you may swing in peace and quiet. The ruin that meets us today was once the magnificent baroque palace that Karl X Gustav built in the middle of the 17th century. He was the only king who lived in the castle for a longer period in time. The first structure that was built in the12th century was a massive tower called a keep. Many different kinds of people have spent their days in the castle over the centuries; kings, queens, architects, prison guards, masons, smiths, carpenters etc. Not all of them were Swedish and during certain periods more people spoke Danish and German than Swedish in the castle. Today, Borgholm Castle is a popular historic sight, which also attracts visitors with concerts, artexhibitions and historical workshops for children.
